Overview

Understanding Veterans Affairs (VA)

Veterans and their families may be able to receive assistance with personal care and everyday activities through VA programs. There are several pathways, and eligibility depends on the Veteran’s service history, disability rating, and financial situation.

Healthy at Home can help families understand their care needs and navigate the next steps, including connecting with VA-accredited representatives and Veterans Service Organizations that can help with applications.

Eligibility

Who may qualify?

VA benefits and programs have specific eligibility requirements based on service history, disability rating, income, and other factors. Eligibility is determined by the VA. We can help you understand the process and connect you with resources, but we do not determine VA eligibility.

  • Served on active duty with an honorable or general discharge
  • May qualify for VA pension with Aid and Attendance based on income and net worth
  • Enrolled in VA health care and may qualify for Homemaker/Home Health Aide services
  • Surviving spouses of Veterans may qualify for certain benefits
  • Need help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or mobility
Support

What support may be available

VA Homemaker / Home Health Aide

Help with personal care and daily activities in the home, available through certain VA medical centers.

VA Pension with Aid and Attendance

A pension benefit that may provide additional income for Veterans and surviving spouses who need help with daily activities.
